On March 13, the Nifty Needles SYNC Group gathered for another productive meeting filled with creativity and purpose. Our group worked on several projects, including making afghans for baby showers at the Camp Pendleton Marine Base. In addition, we processed an amazing 26 quilts, showcasing the dedication and talent of our members!
One of the highlights of the meeting was progress on a special yoyo quilt, a handmade queen-size retro piece that is set to become an “opportunity quilt”. This quilt will be raffled off to raise funds for an great cause: purchasing sewing machines for women in Uganda. Each machine costs $155 and is a treadle-style unit purchased locally in Uganda. These machines are more than tools—they empower women to support their families by enabling them to start small businesses. To receive a machine, each woman must complete classes to learn essential skills like using the machine, buying wholesale materials, bookkeeping, and opening a checking account.
We’re proud to share that we’ve already purchased one sewing machine this year and have raised $60 toward another. With the completion of the yoyo quilt expected this summer, we hope to make a significant impact on this initiative.
Stay tuned for updates. Pat plans to bring the completed quilt to an upcoming board meeting. Thank you to everyone in Nifty Needles for your hard work and commitment to making a difference!
