Point Reyes “Vacay”
Cow-girls for Jesus is going to Point Reyes for a horse camping trip July 30th through August 5th. Point Reyes is absolutely one of the most beautiful places that I have ever ridden. It’s breathtaking!
Some of us will be staying at the Point Reyes Country Inn and Stables. It’s a bed-and-breakfast with horse boarding available. Ladies planning to attend are all responsible for making their own reservations. If interested in staying at Point Reyes Country Inn and Stables, contact Tom by phone, 415-633-9696 or through their web page, www.ptreyescountryinn.com. Please don’t hesitate to make reservations. Last week they had five rooms available; as of February 1 they had only three left.
Some ladies have made reservations at the Stewart Horse Camping Grounds. If you choose to camp at the Stewart Horse Camp, please be aware that there are no corrals. You must high wire or bring portable panels. There are no dogs allowed in the camp or on the trails. On the plus side, they do have hot showers! Contact Stewart Horse Camp by phone, 415-633-1362, or through their web page, cshatrap.org.
As with all of our camping trips, family and husbands are welcome.
You can read about Point Reyes at Point Reyes, National Seashore California.
Also, if you are planning on going and have room in your horse trailer, please let us know.
Cowgirls for Jesus:
Sign up for Pathfinders Training
(Carol Stasiewicz is spearheading our Pathfinders Coordination project.)
Saddle up Cowgirls for Jesus! There is a mighty grand roundup going on at Pathfinders that we have the privilege of being a part of!
Pathfinders is a ministry for the 4,000 children/youth of our area that are identified as “Children in Transition” by the Washoe County School District. This non-denominational, evangelical organization was organized in 2001 to reach the inner-city, at-risk and forgotten children of Washoe County with The Gospel. While many of these children live at or below poverty level, Pathfinder volunteers seek demonstrate a viable alternative by the example of our words, our service to them, and the Love of God poured through us. There are 11 vans that transport these young people to the Friday night dinner and Bible study/games events at Sparks Christian Fellowship. Several other events go on weekly as well. I attended the meeting Friday, January 27th, and was blown away by the caliber of the staff ministering to the kids, and the kids themselve!. They are starved for the Good News of Jesus Christ! Normally about 150 kids show up on Friday.
We talked at the Cowgirls for Jesus Christmas party about coming alongside Pathfinders with some horse activities. Mainly we are considering offering ground exercises and some training in horsenality (understanding horse “personality”), safety, etc. with an emphasis on the value of listening, awareness, responsibility, accountability, and self control. Frankly, some of the environments that these children live in do not teach these lessons. When given the chance to work with a 1,000+ pound horse I think the children could learn them rather quickly! (Safety always first, obviously!)
An important part of our preparation will include training on how to relate to these kids***** Chuck Grimm, the founder of Pathfinders, is offering a Pathfinder Training Seminar on Saturday, February 11, 2017, from 1-5 pm at the Kid Zone at 427 Spokane Street, Reno, NV. This training seminar will give you an in-depth understanding of the obstacles these children and youth face and how Pathfinders seeks to make a difference. Pathfinders’ volunteers are required to take this training. It is not formal – there are not any tests. It just helps you to understand and relate better to the children.
Through our wonderful love of horses, we have an opportunity to flesh out Christ’s command:
“Let the children come unto Me…for to such belongs the Kingdom of Heaven.”
Matthew 19:14, EST
