He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds (Psalm 147:3).
Whenever I meet with A21 staff and visit our Aftercare shelters, it grieves me to see girls in our care who were trafficked and raped as many as 30 to 40 times a day. The horrors they have been forced to endure break my heart.
These girls have hardened their hearts in an effort to protect themselves from the abuse they’ve been forced to endure. And throughout their restoration process, I continually find that the Holy Spirit is the only One who can break down that wall. It’s a supernatural work only God can perform.
In a similar way, maybe you’ve hardened your heart in an effort to protect yourself from being hurt by someone. This defense mechanism that’s been your fortress, will eventually turn into a prison that keeps you locked in. Perhaps it already has.
But today, the Holy Spirit is saying, “I want to come and be your defense. I know people have hurt you. I know you’ve faced disappointment. But you’re keeping yourself in prison because you’re stopping Me from coming in and allowing your heart to function effectively.”
If there is any part of your heart that’s been hardened by abuse or hurt, give it to the Holy Spirit. The healing He desires to bring into your life will be more amazing than you could ever imagine!
